Derrick Clarke – Hampton
Hampton guard Derrick Clarke has the kind of athleticism that changes the feel of a gym the moment he checks in. The explosive playmaker can score at all three levels, using his first step to blow by defenders, his strength to finish through contact and a soft shooting touch to keep defenses honest from the perimeter. His versatility on the defensive end allows him to switch onto multiple positions, giving Hampton the flexibility to play faster and more aggressively.
Head coach Brandon Jones has a simple but powerful way of describing what Clarke brings to the Bulldogs. “Derrick is a very explosive guard that can score at all three levels and defend all positions,” Jones said.
That combination of scoring punch and defensive range makes Clarke the engine of Hampton’s identity. He can pick up full court, turn a live-ball steal into an instant layup and then come right back around to initiate the half-court offense on the next trip. When opponents load up to stop his drives, he is just as comfortable pulling up off the dribble or finding a cutter diving to the rim. As Hampton chases postseason success, Clarke’s ability to impact every possession, on both ends of the floor, positions him as one of the most influential guards in Arkansas and a name to know on the preseason watchlist
