Rod Chaten Jr. – Dardanelle High School
Rod Chaten Jr. has built one of the most impressive high school basketball résumés in Arkansas basketball. The three-year starter and 1,000-point scorer enters his senior season already etched into Dardanelle history, having won 77 games in his prep career while leading the Sand Lizards through two separate 30-win seasons. Last year as a junior, Chaten averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds per game, dominating both ends of the floor with an efficiency that separates elite talents from good players.
Head coach Russell Sturdivant has watched Chaten’s consistency and all-around excellence firsthand and does not shy away from the praise he deserves. “It would be hard to find another player in the state as efficient as Rod is,” Sturdivant said. “Rod was voted an all-state player in 2024.”
Chaten’s impact extends well beyond point totals and rebounds. He leads Dardanelle in nearly every statistical category, setting the tone on defense with his length and anticipation, then translating that into easy baskets at the other end. What makes his efficiency even more remarkable is that he manages all this while being an incredible football player who competes at the highest level in two sports. As Dardanelle looks toward another title run, Chaten’s proven winner’s mentality, versatile skill set and ability to take over games in crucial moments position the Sand Lizards as legitimate contenders in every tournament they enter.
