Hamilton working hard in the offseason getting ready to run it back for Badgers
By Buck Ringgold
Winning a state championship is always a tremendous feeling.
Yet, sometimes it isn’t easy on the road to attaining a title. That’s something that really stands out for Arkadelphia senior Malachi Hamilton when discussing the Badgers’ run to the Class 4A championship a season ago.
“Winning state last year was definitely super enjoyable and a big accomplishment; we worked so hard for it every day, everyone had a locked-in bond and a connection with each other,” Hamilton said. “It wasn’t an easy road; you had to want it really bad and that year, we wanted it really, really bad, and that all paid off in December that year.”
Hamilton was a starting middle linebacker on that title squad and is back to start for his second season. He also plays some on offense at fullback, and helped preserve Arkadelphia’s title-game win against Elkins with several hard running efforts.
“I would say my biggest strengths are my work ethic and effort,” Hamilton said. “I try to do the little things right just like Coach (Trey) Schucker preaches to us every day.

“I’d also say my leadership and commitment to the team are big strengths. If I’m not giving 100%, then I know the younger guys won’t either, so I take it on myself to set the standard and be that leader for them.”
In that title campaign, Hamilton logged 105 tackles at middle linebacker. He has been working extensively this offseason to get similar numbers or better in 2025.
“The biggest thing I’ve been working on this offseason is getting stronger and faster,” Hamilton said. “Coach Schucker has us in the weight room every day, making sure we stay healthy and keep our bodies ready for the season.”
And no doubt, Hamilton has high hopes that the Badgers can finish the upcoming season the same way they did a year ago.
“I think the biggest key is everybody buying in again and trusting each other,” he said. “Last year, we had great chemistry and if we keep that same mindset and work ethic, we’ll be right back in Little Rock.”
