Junction City’s Antonio Buggs Jr. – South Arkansas Fan’s Choice Mr. Basketball – Presented by Shelter Insurance

For Antonio Buggs Jr., basketball is more than just a game, it’s a way to make the people around him proud.

A freshman at Junction City High School, Buggs is already beginning to carve out his identity on the court. With a strong work ethic and a team-first mindset, he approaches every game with purpose, knowing that his performance reflects not just on himself, but on his school and those who support him.

“My family motivates me.”

That motivation shows up in big moments. One of the standout performances from his season came in a key win over the Hampton Bulldogs, where Buggs delivered an impressive all-around effort.

“When I scored 21 points and 5 assists to help my team win against the Hampton Bulldogs.”

While individual performances matter, Buggs remains focused on something bigger than personal stats. Representing Junction City carries weight for him, especially as a young player building his reputation.

“Representing my school means a lot to me. Feel like I’m doing something to make them proud.”

His drive doesn’t fade when challenges arise. In fact, it intensifies. Buggs leans on his teammates and the responsibility he feels toward them to keep pushing forward.

“I push harder when things get tough because I know my teammates are counting on me.”

Off the court, his development is shaped by those closest to him, especially a key figure who continues to challenge him to improve.

“My uncle Tron! He pushes me to do better and to strive for better.”

Buggs also studies the game closely, modeling his style after one of the NBA’s most poised and skilled guards.

“I model my game after Jalen Brunson. He’s my favorite player.”

Through it all, his family remains a constant source of encouragement, showing up and supporting him every step of the way.

“My family is my biggest supporter. Especially my mom. They enjoy watching me play the game that I love so much.”

As just a ninth grader, Antonio Buggs Jr. is still at the beginning of his journey. But with a strong support system, clear motivation, and a growing confidence on the court, he’s already laying the foundation for a promising future at Junction City.
