Air Force commit had a huge game as Mounties put up 84 points on Sept. 12
By Buck Ringgold
Rogers came into the season as a contender in the 7A-West.
Judging from their first three games, the Mounties have more than lived up to that billing. They scored a combined total of 172 points, capped by an 84-40 win against Sheridan on Sept. 12.
One reason for the Mounties’ stellar offensive production is the return of senior quarterback Jeff Regan. In that win against Sheridan, he completed 12-of-18 passes for 243 yards and three TDs and also had 115 yards rushing and three more scores.
Needless to say, Regan is having a blast running the Rogers offense.
“It’s awesome, especially the amount I’ve learned from the coaches and just helping me with my reads and where to look, pre snap, post snap,” Regan said. “They do such a good job with that, and just the experience that I gained last year from doing it, it’s unreal.”
Regan also emphasized that it’s not just him but the other players on offense that has really made the Mounties go.
“I mean, all these dudes are talented; our running backs and receivers, they’re all talented dudes, and I think just the energy they bring and who they are, I think it just gets us going,” Regan said.
Regan is in his second season as the Mounties’ starting signal-caller. Last season, he had approximately 4,000 yards of total offense and 55 total TDs while earning All-State honors.
It may be hard to believe, but initially Regan didn’t like going to quarterback after having played receiver his sophomore year.
“Oh, at first I didn’t really like it; I thought it was kind of boring, kind of slower than what I was used to,” he said. “But as I’ve adapted to it. I started to like it more and appreciate it.”
And Regan’s transition behind center paid dividends in another way, as he committed to play at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
“I’m excited to be out there,” he said. “The coaches are great, the people are great. I think just the opportunity to go there makes me truly blessed and grateful for that.”
